Winter Mountaineering

one axe mountaineering | classic ridges | winter scrambling

Winter mountaineering can be defined in different ways. For me winter mountaineering is the ground in-between walking and climbing. When walking in the winter we often carry an ice axe ‘just in case’, and when climbing we require 2 ice axes, ropes and lots of equipment to safeguard our movement. Winter mountaineering requires one ice axe and a rope…but instead of pitching the route we combine numerous techniques to move quickly, efficiently and safely through moderate terrain.

Below you will find a small selection of winter mountaineering objectives. This is just to give you ideas! There are plenty of other excellent routes that I will be more than happy to guide you up! Get in touch and we can discuss further!
